Ice and Fire

The exhibition 'Ice and Fire' by the photographic duo Nicole and Karl Reber (ftwo) explores the tension between the elements of ice and fire in terms of form and colour.
The photographs were captured between 2023 and 2025 in the landscapes of Switzerland and Iceland, with ftwo's artistic emphasis lying in the domain of abstract landscape photography. Through the integration of diverse approaches and interpretations, and the utilisation of varied materials, ftwo presents a novel perspective on the inherent beauty of nature.
The application of photographic techniques results in images that diverge from literal depictions of nature, while concurrently amplifying the perception of the transformed representation of nature, manifesting in a novel manner, predominantly through an uninhibited interplay of colours. Consequently, the viewer's perspective on our environment is transcended, as the focus is redirected towards the chromatic and structural characteristics of the landscapes.

f/two - two individualists, one team

f/two is the artistic project of Nicole Reber, art historian and cultural consultant, and Karl Reber, archaeologist and professor emeritus at the University of Lausanne.
Both share a passion for photography, which has fascinated them since their youth in the analogue age. In recent years, they have increasingly focused on digital photography and have participated in numerous exhibitions and art fairs. Their collaborative work is characterised by atmospheric landscape images as well as highly abstract detail shots that give the viewer a new, often unfamiliar view of everyday surroundings. Thematically, the works are dedicated to transience, climate change and nature as a material. The themes are chosen collectively, but the artistic realisation is individual. The resulting dialogue is an essential engine in their ongoing development process.

« We look for our subjects in nature, where the most diverse colours and shapes are hidden. Our images are real and yet not, because we try to abstract nature through the careful selection of details and special shooting techniques. We choose our subjects together, but as individualists we each have our own point of view. Our images are thus created in a constant critical dialogue. »
