Donegel' Chong

Donegel' Chong works as an artist and fashion designer. After studying in Malaysia, Singapore and Great Britain, his path finally led him to Switzerland.
His works are for him reflections of life. Chong has travelled the world in search of innovative creations. His artworks are mainly concerned with his preferences, what he likes, what he disapproves of, what he wants, what he refuses, and are biographical to varying degrees. Donegel' Chong calls it "reflections of life".

"Feeding" is a series of works inspired by similar experiences in different parts of the world. What are the motifs for feeding fish in the temples of Thailand, feeding strays, or feeding ducks at Lake Constance? Does it happen for love, survival, sharing or are there ulterior motives? Does the strongest take everything, the weakest fight and then lose? Depending on the species, we see selfish tendencies to varying degrees. Are there parallels to humans? These paintings are made entirely from my favorite brush strokes, which I named "Kurrrlys".

Donegel' Chong: Erika's Waggis Volume 2: Rai, Acrylic on canvas, H 60 x W 30 cm

"Erikas Waggis" is a cycle with a short story about my life and my surroundings. Why Erika? Erika Siegler is my neighbour, who originally comes from Basel. She gave me two self-knitted Waggis dolls for Christmas 2017. They inspired me to tell stories about my life and my surroundings through the character Waggis. I am also surprised that the Waggis belong to Switzerland but are not really known outside Basel. As a Swiss by choice, I am therefore taking on the task of making Waggis better known internationally. Erikas Waggis Volume 1 is about loss and recovery. Erika's Waggis Volume 2 is about self-realization. From Volume 2 on, all protagonists (Waggis dolls) are knitted by Erika according to my specifications. It is planned to have 10 volumes in one book with a portrait of Erika Siegler."
