Robert Schwander

Switzerland

Robert Schwander's current work is rooted in his decades-long engagement with natural processes and cycles, shaped by his experiences in biodynamic agriculture. This experiential knowledge provides a subtle backdrop to his paintings, influencing his perception of landscapes, structures and rhythms.

Rather than appearing as isolated motifs, the mountains are presented as expressions of higher orders and forces. In his new paintings, alpine forms condense into open pictorial spaces oscillating between figuration and abstraction. Intuitively guided by form and colour, the compositions reflect the natural tensions between calm and dynamism, condensation and dissolution. Through his oil paintings on canvas, the artist expands his painterly possibilities. Layering colours lends the paintings depth and allows for a sensitive exploration of transitions between light and shadow. The result is landscapes that should be understood not as representations, but as inner images of nature.

Shaped by experience, observation and an awareness of the hidden connections between living beings, they offer a unique perspective on nature. These works invite us to experience nature anew as a multi-layered space of order and change.
