Anna Dobrovolskaya-Mints is a photographer and contemporary artist based in London, UK.
Born in Post-Soviet Russia, Dobrovolskaya-Mints experienced a childhood characterised by a dualistic environment, residing in a state of transition between two distinct cultural and social spheres. Her father, an art collector, ensured that she was surrounded by aesthetic stimuli. Consequently, Dobrovolskaya-Mints's upbringing was characterised by a sense of safety and comfort within the confines of her familial home. Concurrently, the external environment was undergoing a period of recovery. The nation was still recuperating from the economic collapse of the early 1990s, and the scars of that period were still visible on the infrastructure.
It was in these abandoned buildings that Dobrovolskaya-Mints first encountered the uncanny, perceiving voids in the spaces that had been left behind. These experiences had a profound impact on her, marking the beginning of her journey as an architectural photographer.
Since then, Dobrovolskaya-Mints has transitioned to the realm of astrophotography and conceptual projects, while her architectural photographs continue to explore the theme of the Anthropocene.
Through her lens, she presents the remarkable and colourful Universe, emphasising the importance of environmental sustainability and the need to avoid informational overload.
