David Stumpp

Switzerland

David Stumpp lives on the shores of Lake Constance in southern Germany. Inspired by the natural beauty of his immediate surroundings, he works primarily in watercolour, subtly capturing atmospheric moods on paper.
However, the young artist's artistic career began far away - in the tropical jungles of Cambodia. Equipped with a set of watercolours and enough time, he began his artistic journey, which became a passion for artistic expression. The constant change and transience of the world is a constant source of inspiration for the artist to capture and document the fleeting moments of an ever-changing world.

For Stumpp, painting is a means of intense engagement with his environment. He observes and internalises the landscape, creating a deep connection with his immediate surroundings. In the artistic process he transforms these internalised impressions into new and distinctive forms of expression on paper.
His artistic development, marked by the currents of Naturalism and Impressionism, manifests itself in a more expressive and abstract style that expresses the essence of the motif in a new and dynamic way. The fluidity and unpredictability of watercolour opens up possibilities for interaction with other media, resulting in spontaneous, organic traces that enhance the vibrancy of the artwork. The interplay between control and chance reflects the unpredictability of the world itself. Stumpp changes perspective in his paintings, focusing on form, light and composition. This approach allows the artist to move away from literal representation and explore the fundamental essence of his subjects.
David Stumpp's work encourages us to engage with nature in a new way and to discover the poetry of shapes, colours and fleeting moments.
