Rita Scherrer-Jenni's artistic oeuvre encompasses a diverse array of media, including sculpting in clay, nature studies employing various craft techniques, and the depiction of the human form in drawing and painting.

A recurrent theme in her work is the exploration of prevailing trends in social and cultural life.However, Scherrer-Jenni's primary focus is on an in-depth analysis of painting, exhibiting a particular affinity for Impressionist works and subsequent art movements. During her art studies in Basel, she discovered the art of abstraction, which became an integral part of her pictorial compositions alongside representational painting.The combination of these two styles results in pictures that are convincing due to their uniqueness and spontaneity.

Rita Scherrer-Jenni's works are characterised by an ambivalence that manifests itself in a state of limbo between the familiar and a completely autonomous aesthetic of form and colour.
