Niartena

Switzerland

Niartena's artistic oeuvre is characterised by the creation of elaborate, multi-layered and provocative works. The artist frequently uses the nude form to explore themes such as body perception, beauty ideals and the role of the human body in society.

Her expressive and thought-provoking depictions encourage viewers to question and reconsider established ideas of physicality and aesthetics. A fundamental component of her visual idiom is her depiction of the human form, which she uses to dispel social taboos. Rather than idealising the body, she portrays it in its original state, characterised by vulnerability and power. In this way, she turns the body into a stage for social projections. Niartena incorporates rich pictorial symbolism to emphasise the implications of social norms. The individual narratives examined in this study address subjects such as liberation, pain and rebellion.
The works are characterised by an intimate and confrontational quality. This establishes an immediate emotional connection, encouraging the audience to engage with their own thoughts and feelings. Niartena achieves this by combining traditional painting techniques, such as oil on canvas, with contemporary, glossy materials like epoxy resin. The juxtaposition of softness and hardness, and of organic form and artificial surface, alludes to the dichotomy between natural physicality and socially moulded ideals.
