Guido Lötscher
For Guido Lötscher, a freelance artist from Lucerne, it was ultimately his encounter with the overwhelming work of the American Expressionist Mark Rothko that brought about his departure from figurative to "metaphysical" color field painting. This led him to an unconventional painting technique whose challenge is to unite harmony of colours and forms, spontaneous expressiveness, and meditative depth. It is the search for the connection between the sensual and the metaphysical that has driven Lötscher ever since.
In Zurich, Lötscher shows a wide variety of works and, in addition to a classic oil-colour field painting, he also exhibits heavyweight works based on a mixed technique with pigmented iron dispersions, oxidation medium, chalk and oil paints.

Red flow (1104):

"The painting is traversed by a red stream that seems to flow constantly slow and tenacious. A cross is recognizable in the middle, which gives the work its symbolic orientation. Does the blue symbolize water, the yellow arable land? Our livelihood is threatened. The earth is bleeding."

Flames I (1063):

"Flames shoot up and radiate energy and warmth. In a deeper layer, iron particles are at work, which embody the element earth and give the painting an archaic power. At the same time, harmony of color and uniform movement lead the viewer to an inner balance. A thick layer of impasto oil paint at the lower edge limits and restrains the sea of flames. At the sides and at the top in a dark blue-violet the flames cool down again and thus form a circle of being and transience."
