Echoes of Lebanon: Oil paintings by Ribal Molaeb
With the exhibition "Echoes of Lebanon", Galerie Agénor (Zurich) presents the Lebanese artist Ribal Molaeb, whose haunting oil paintings are a nostalgic testimony to the colours of a childhood in Lebanon.
At the age of 17, Ribal Molaeb moved to Salzburg and later to Vienna, where he studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts and graduated with distinction.
From an early age, Ribal Molaeb was personally taught by his father, the well-known artist Jamil Molaeb. He was also inspired by the Lebanese abstract expressionists of the 20th century, such as Etel Adnan, Aref el Rayes and Shafic Abboud.
Ribal Molaeb's musical training in Vienna has strongly influenced his painting. The compositional, harmonic and melodic aspects of his work are musically inspired; he uses the power of colour and harmony to create energetic paintings characterised by a fine distribution of colour and form.
Molaeb's understanding of the harmony of classical music enables him to create paintings in sophisticated abstract compositions.
