Miguel Carbajal

At the ART INTERNATIONAL ZURICH 2020 Miguel Carbajal presents his project "Mientras me Gesto" for the first time in public. The project consists of 17 pictures with which the artist reflects his internal transformation process. The photographs that make up this project are of a poetic nature, and it is also a poem (written by the artist himself), which introduces the project and leaves the viewer a "shadow space" in which he can allow his own conclusions, feelings and ideas.

Miguel Carbajal was born in Zurich in 1986. At the age of 9, he left Switzerland with his father and siblings to gain a foothold in Lima, Peru. Seven years later they all return. After the experience of being a foreigner in Peru, comes the experience of being a foreigner in Switzerland. Questions about the own identity become immanent.
Fascinated by biblical stories, Miguel Carbajal dives more and more into mystical terrain. Poets such as William Blake, Cesar Vallejo, writers such as Jorge Luis Borges, Alan Moore, and artists such as Alejandro Jodorowsky have shaped and continue to shape his artistic activity. At the moment he is making use of photography because it quickly and easily establishes the connection between the outside world and the inner world. His curiosity and joy in creation and creativity itself also brings forth drawn and painted works.

"Consciousness is my home, even if I am not always consciously at home."
